I really appreciate getting questions like this since it is always a good idea to look into whether or not two different drug products are compatible with each other (i.e. ensure they don't interact).
This is especially true of over the counter (i.e. OTC) cough/cold products since they very often contain more than one drug ingredient.
So, let's take a look at the two in question here:
- Children's Mucinex Cough
- Children's Zyrtec
Children's Mucinex Cough contains two ingredients:
Children's Zyrtec contains one:
All three of these drugs are considered to be safe together. There is no known interaction between them.
Therefore, in this case, you should be fine giving Children's Zyrtec with Children's Mucinex Cough.
I do want to point out that not all Children's Mucinex products are free of interactions with Children's Zyrtec.
For example, the Mucinex Children's Multi-Symptom Cold Night formula contains diphenhydramine (which is the active ingredient in Benadryl). Combining that with Zyrtec could cause some side effects, like excess sedation, dry mouth and dry eyes.
Thanks again for your question!
