I'm wondering if it is safe to take meclizine with Suboxone (Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, Naloxone Hydrochloride)?

Answer

There is a minor drug interaction between meclizine and Suboxone (Buprenorphine Hydrochloride, Naloxone Hydrochloride) that needs to be considered when combining the two.

Combining Suboxone with meclizine can cause additive sedative and CNS (central nervous system effects). This could potentially cause excess sedation, depressed respiratory function and low blood pressure. It would be relatively uncommon for these to occur on usual and prescribed doses of these medications, but the risk is there and is important to be aware of. You certainly do not want to add on additional drugs that could depress the CNS such as alcohol.

Be sure to let your doctor know all the medication you are taking so they can give you an appropriate recommendation for your specific situation. Sometimes if the drugs are used together, the dose of one or the other may be adjusted slightly.
