Julie asked

Can I take Lexapro with Phenylephrine HCI? This is the only thing that seems to work for me when I have sinus pain and congestion. Thank you for your time.

Answer

There is no drug interaction between Lexapro (escitalopram) and phenylephrine. They are considered safe to take together.

However, it is important to note that phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant) is a component in a many over the counter combination ingredient cold/cold products. Some of these products contain medication that generally should not be used with Lexapro, such as dextromethorphan (increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome). Always be sure to look at labels of the medication you are purchasing.

As stated above, phenylephrine as a single ingredient is considered safe to use with Lexapro. It is available in the brand name product Sudafed PE and generically as well.
