Answer

Day & Night Nurse 24 Hour Care is an over the counter cough/cold product that is available only in the United Kingdom. It contains two different products:

  • Night Nurse Capsules
  • Day Nurse Capsules

The Day Nurse capsules are intended for day time use and contain:

  • Tylenol (acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol): Analgesic
  • Sudafed (pseudoephedrine): Nasal decongestant
  • Pholcodine: Cough suppressant

The Night Nurse capsules are intended for night time use and contain:
  • Tylenol (acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol): Analgesic
  • Dextromethorphan: Cough suppressant
  • Promethazine: Antihistamine

In terms of interactions, there is some concern using Zoloft (sertraline), as well as other SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) medications, with dextromethorphan. Both increase the neurotransmitter serotonin, potentially increased the risk of additive serotonin-related effects.  While the combination of dextromethorphan and Zoloft have been used safely together, there is the risk of serotonin syndrome and caution should be advised when co-administering the drugs together.

It would be advised to talk to your doctor regarding combining Day & Night Nurse 24 Hour and Zoloft (sertraline).
