I have been taken Zoloft at night with Zetia and Crestor. Is this wise to take them together?
Answer
There are no reported drug interactions between Zoloft, Zetia, and Crestor. They all may be taken concurrently if indicated.
Taking them all together at night is acceptable especially if this is the best dosing schedule to maintain adherence with all three of the medications.
Zoloft
Zoloft (sertraline) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is used most commonly for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. Zoloft may be taken with or without food and in the morning or the evening. Each new dose of Zoloft takes around 12 weeks to reach full effect although effects may be noticed in as little as two weeks. Common side effects of Zoloft include but are not limited to:
- Drowsiness
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Insomnia
Crestor
Crestor (rosuvastatin) is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor more commonly known as a statin. It is indicated for the treatment of hypercholoesterolemia. Crestor should be swallowed whole and may be taken without regard to meals and in the morning or evening unlike many other statins which have better effects if taken only in the evening. Common side effects associated with taking Crestor include but are not limited to:
- Muscle pain
- Diarrhea
- Dypepsia
- Headache
- Elevated hepatic enzymes
Zetia
Zetia (ezetimibe) is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Zetia may be taken as monotherapy or in combination with other medications used to treat high cholesterol including statins and fenofibrate. Zetia may be taken with or without food. Common side effects associated with taking Zetia include but are not limited to:
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Cough
- Abdominal pain
