I'm using Mylanta every once in a while for gas. Is Benadryl okay with it?

Answer

There are no reported drug interactions between Benadryl and Mylanta. They are considered safe to take together.

Mylanta

Mylanta is a combination stomach acid reducing product, and contains the following active ingredients:

  • Aluminum hydroxide
  • Magnesium hydroxide
  • Simethicone

The aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide act as antacids, that is they neutralize stomach acid and act as buffering agents to relieve symptoms of heartburn.

Simethicone is not an antacid, but helps relieve gas by lowering the surface tension of gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines. Simethicone is commonly used in combination with antacids to relieve symptoms of heartburn, upset stomach and indigestion.

Benadryl

Benadryl is a sedating, first-generation antihistamine that is often used for allergies and insomnia. The most common side effect of Benadryl is sedation, and is therefore is a commonly used ingredient in night time sleep products.
