Yes, you may safely take both Celebrex (celecoxib) with Tylenol (Acetaminophen or Paracetamol). There is no known drug interaction between the two but they typically are not taken at the same time since both are used for similar indications (i.e. pain).

However, they do have different mechanisms by which they work and there are certainly times where you may find yourself wanting to take both during the same day.

For example, Celebrex is generally taken on a daily basis for chronic conditions, like arthritis, since it has strong anti-inflammatory actions. It is perfectly fine to continue to take it every day while using the acetaminophen on a more 'as-needed' basis.[1][2]

Below is some information regarding the two medications.

What Is Celebrex (Celecoxib)?

  • Belongs to the NSAID class of medication (Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs).
  • Belongs to the sub-class of NSAIDs known as COX-2 Specific inhibitors.
  • Used typically for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and less commonly for acute pain.
  • It is associated with fewer GI side effects versus over the counters NSAID medications (e.g. Ibuprofen and Naproxen).

What Is Tylenol?

  • Used commonly as an analgesic and antipyretic.
  • It has no anti-inflammatory activity.
  • Sometimes preferred over NSAIDs due to fewer side effects (hematologic, GI, etc...).
  • It can be dosed for adults, infants, and children.
