I am taking magnesium or aluminum40-1100MG and Gabapenbtin 800 MG. I have been having to take the OMERPRA/BICAR 40-1100MG very early in the morning because I must take the Gabapentin at 7:00 am. I am wondering if the OMERPRA/BICAR 40-1100MG cintains magnesium or aluminum as it conflicts with the Gabapentin if taken w/in 2hrs taking one or the other. if it doesn't have themagnesium or aluminum i can take the 30 mins. before breakfast. Your info will be gretly apprecited, thank you.

Answer

There is a slight interaction between Zegerid (Omeprazole/Sodium Bicarb) and gabapentin. Antacids (e.g., aluminum hydroxide; magnesium hydroxide) have been shown to reduce the oral bioavailability of gabapentin by roughly 20%.  Even though Zegerid doesn't specifically contain large amounts of aluminum or magnesium, it is still recommended to separate it from gabapentin. The decrease in bioavailability was about 5% when gabapentin was administered 2 hours after the antacid. It is recommended that gabapentin be taken at least 2 hours following the administration of antacids in order to avoid a significant interaction.
