I received a NuvaRing both control in the end of May and was told to refrigerate it. I took it out on Monday June 18th to put it in. Now that I am reading a lot on it, people are saying not to refrigerate it only if you are storing it for more than four months. Since I stored it for less than a full month, will the effectiveness of my NuvaRing be lower because I put it in the fridge instead of keeping it out before the four month mark? I am scared that I am not protected.
Answer
After picking up from the pharmacy, Nuvaring can be stored in the refrigerator with no loss of efficacy. Alternatively, the NuvaRing can be stored for up to 4 months at room temperature (maximum of 25°C or 77°F). When Nuvaring is stored at the pharmacy (before dispensing to a patient), it is stored refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F).
There is no need to worry that you put Nuvaring in the fridge after you picked it up from the pharmacy. It will still be as effective and potent as labeled. Efficacy only begins to decrease if it has been out of the refrigerator for more than 4 months, if it is stored in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 30°C (86°F) according to the prescribing information.
