Cherryb asked

Will taking 25mcg of cytomel interact with multi-vitamins, 40mg zocor, 20mg celexa, 25mg hydrochlorthiazide?

Answer

To start off with, it is recommended that you take the Cytomel first thing in the morning when you wake up with a full glass of water, at least 30-60 minutes before breakfast.

This is recommended because taking Cytomel with other products and food can inhibit the absorption of the medication. Cytomel (and most thyroid medications) are extremely low dosages and a small change in dose can produce a huge difference in effect.[1]

In fact, Cytomel is dosed in micrograms, which is 1/1000 of a milligram, so it's already a small dosage we are talking about!

Taking it consistently by itself in the morning with no other food or medications will certainly help its effects on treatment for you.

So in essence, Cytomel 'interacts' with all drugs since it should be taken by itself.

In terms of the other medications you listed, there is only a minor (and we mean minor) interaction between the hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)  and Celexa. Since HCTZ is a diuretic and causes fluid loss, it can in some cases cause forms of dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

These electrolyte imbalances can cause issues with heart rhythm. Celexa by itself can cause changes with the heart rhythm (usually only at very high doses) so that is why there technically is an interaction. As we said though, this interaction is pretty clinically insignificant and would rarely cause issues in patients.[2]
