Jeff asked

I was told by a pharmacist that I could take mucus relief and an intihistamine together to cut down on my cough. I have a bad head cold and the mucus was draining down in my throat. Did I screw up by doing this? Also it says 24 hour relief does that mean it will be in my system for 24 hours. It is the Walzyr brand from Walgreens.

Answer

Yes, antihistamines and mucus relief products (e.g. expectoranst such as Mucinex) are safe to take together.

They are often beneficial to combine as they can work synergistically together. Antihistamines can help to dry mucus secretions and prevent post-nasal drip. Expectorants thin secretions and reduce their adhesiveness in the respiratory tract.
