Audra asked

Can I take a 5 mg of hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Norco) if I took 25mg of Benadryl 9 hours ago?

Answer

Assorted PillsBenadryl (diphenhydramine) and Norco should be used at the same time with caution as the potential for additive sedative effects could be dangerous. However, it is considered safe to take hydrocodone (which is contained in Norco) about 6 hours after taking Benadryl as the effects will have worn off by that time.

Benadryl reaches its peak sedative effect one to three hours after a dose is taken and its therapeutic effects generally last for four to six hours. It should be noted that it does take about one to two days for Benadryl to be completely cleared from your system, so there is still a risk (albeit small) of additive side effects until after 1-2 days.
