Eric asked
HI, I have been taking 1mg of Lorazepam daily for 3 months. I have tried to stop but the withdrawal symptoms have been very strong. My doctor and I have decided to wean myself down over a protracted course of time. He has prescribed Lorazepam Intensol liquid concentrate 2mg/ml to begin a 10% taper every two weeks. I am concerned about accurately measuring the required dosages with the 2mg/ml standard concentration. Can I dilute this myself to make it easier to measure accurately? I would like to add .95ml water to .5 ml of the Intensol liquid to obtain 1mg lorazepam/10ml liquid. Can this be done?
Answer
Lorazepam Intensol is a concentrated liquid that should be mixed with other liquids or semi-solid foods before taking.
Lorazepam Intensol is recommended to be mixed with any of the following:
- Water
- Juices
- Soda
- Applesauce
- Puddings
It is important to only use dropper that comes with Lorazepam Intensol as it is calibrated precisely for that particular product. To take a dose of Lorazepam Intensol:
- Draw your prescribed amount in the dropper
- Squeeze the dropper contents into the chosen liquid or semi-solid food
- Stir the liquid or food gently for a few seconds. Lorazepam Intensol generally mixes very quickly and prolonged mixing isn't usually required
Due to concerns with drug stability and dosing complications, the dose you mix should be consumed immediately. You should only mix the product for when taking a dose. You should not mix the whole bottle at one time and store for future use.
Per the package insert for Lorazepam Intensol:
"The entire amount of the mixture, of drug and liquid or drug and food, should be consumed immediately. Do not store for future use.
Summary
Lorazepam Intensol is recommended to be mixed with other liquids or semi-solid foods. The mixed dose should be consumed immediately. You should not mix the entire bottle of Lorazepam Intensol at once and the mixed product should not be stored for future use.
