Does bupropion hcl sr have an interaction with Ambien (zolpidem)?
Answer
Most drug references do not list a drug interaction between buproprion and Ambien (zolpidem).
Having said that, there have been a few studies that produced rare reports of hallucinations occurring when zolpidem was administered at the same time as bupropion. Theoretically, dosage reductions in zolpidem may be needed in those already taking bupropion. No large scale studies have been done on this matter however and it is not known if the hallucinations in the case reports were actually due to zolpidem and buproprion.
One such study that included these case reports can be found here.

Since this is not considered a major interaction and is very rare (if it occurs at all) , it usually would not necessitate a change in therapy.
